China Pushing for Unceasing Development of China-Latin America Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership

On Sept. 25, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a group meeting with the "enlarged troika" of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) including Foreign Minister of Cuba Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Foreign Minister of Costa Rica Enrique Castillo and Foreign Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Winston Dookeran, as well as representatives from some Latin American and Caribbean countries at the UN headquarters, New York.
Wang Yi expressed that the Chinese government under the new leadership attaches great importance to relations with Latin America and hopes to promote the overall development of China-Latin America cooperation. China-Latin America cooperation is conducive to the common interests of both sides, will help to enhance the international status of the majority of developing countries and can better benefit the people of the two sides and of the world. 

Wang Yi said that this year can be called a year of China-Latin America high-level exchanges. President Xi Jinping visited three Latin American countries and met with leaders of eight Caribbean countries; heads of state or government of eight Latin American and Caribbean countries visited China successively. The state leaders of the two sides reached important consensus on enhancing the level of relations and on promoting overall cooperation, pointed out the direction for the future development of China-Latin America relations. China is ready to work with the Latin American side to push for the unceasing development of China-Latin America comprehensive cooperative partnership of equality, mutual benefit and common development. 

Both sides held useful discussions on the establishment of the Forum on China-Latin America Cooperation, the development of sub-regional organizations in Latin America and international development agenda, and reached important consensus.
